Yetunde : The Last Straw
Yetunde : The Last Straw
8-year-old Yetunde is sure of her place in this world and it's right at the center of everything! At home the drama revolves around her; there is a strict mother who wants her to be responsible, a father who adores her, and 3 older siblings who are not impressed by her antics, which serve to make sure she always gets her way. Every task, no matter how mundane, somehow manages to become a major drama episode.
Yetunde's life is enriched by her close friends who make school just as much a place for fun as it is for learning, especially lessons that can't be found in a book; lessons about friendship and changes that lead to unexpected growth. In this particular year, things are ticking over nicely until they aren't.
Things are about to get very exciting indeed and Daddy's little girl is going to have a whirlwind of a year. Her mother is up to something and Yetunde is determined to put a stop to it, but her sisters are rooting for their mother and can't wait for Yetunde to be brought down to earth and finally realise that the world doesn't revolve around her. To make matters worse a new development at school puts her friendships in jeopardy leaving Yetunde wondering where to turn. Yetunde has her work cut out for her and not even Daddy can help her this time.
This is a story about life in a middle-class African home. It shows the rarely portrayed simple, uncomplicated lives lived by most; there is no war, no abject poverty, or other extremes, just a family with simple problems getting on with everyday life which is anything but boring.
